In his second solo exhibition in Korea, Jin siyon presents two recent works. Those are 'Tide' and 'Wave', one is embodied with rotating LCD monitors and the other is constructed with LED installations. Majored in painting, Jin got interested in video installation upon his studying in New York since 2000. His work, however, always focuses on ordinary images that people could immediately appreciate, rather than concentrating on technical innovations of media art. He investigates common and universal topics everyone easily recognizes and empathizes with, such as passages of time, memories of place or touches of nature. Most prominently, he inquires inter-relational experiences between virtual images in video frames and real space and time of physical installations.

With 'Tide' Jin shows dynamic rhythms of ocean that represents usual and common power of nature. For visualizing the flux of tide, the artist went to the beach of Nova Scotia, Canada, where is famous for the greatest difference between the rise and fall of the tide in the world. Having pictured immense motions of ebb and flow by interval shots for six hours each, he edited and merged two images of rise and fall into one dynamic scene, adjoined at the center of screen. Then he expanded the pictured motions to the physical movement of rotating LCD monitors. The highly compressed time of video images, which reconstruct overwhelming dynamics of nature, resonances cycles of nature and transits of time through concrete and physical actions of monitors.

Also screening sea images, 'Wave' is consisted of LED pixels upon three dimensional shape undulating like ripples of sea. Observing time and space inside and outside of the video images, the artist develops his images to haptic and tactile substances of solid forms embodied in three dimensional undulating shapes. Applying LED pixels, he finds out his ways to materialize illusioned images into concrete and physical entities. Shaped LED screen of 'Wave' is not just a medium to project videotaped sea images, but becomes a haptic and real body reflecting pictured waves. The frame of LED screen, which is mediating the virtual world in it, becomes a real one by itself. 'Wave' also overcomes the confines of screened image, which has to be projected in darkness. His LED screen shines by itself rather than to be an illusion revealed by gleams of light.

Leaving painting, Jin siyon has consistently investigated to embody and incorporate motions of video images into solid shapes and physical movements. Screened waves of sea extend to the sculptural mold, overflowing the brims of undulating frame. His waves swell over the borders between natural world and envisioned illusion. In the age of high technology, Jin's waves are to be the sea itself, and his images exist anywhere shining by itself.
