Opened in October of 2008, the
Nam June Paik Art Center established  the Nam June Paik Art Center Prize and announced the winners on November 28th, 2008.
Lee Seung-taek, Ahn Eun-me, Robert Adrian X, Ceal Floyer were selected as the first award recipients, and their award ceremony opened along with the exhibition of their work.

As an artist penetrating the Korean modern art history of the late 1950s, Lee Seung-taek focuses on the interpretation of political, social and artistic values, using human hair, stones, money, fire, sine and other various material on his works of sculpture, painting and environmental art. Ahn Eun-me is more renowned as a dancer than an artist. Reinterpreting tradition and shocking performances done in almost nude in a contemporary way, Ahn Eun-me is a leading dancer and choreographer representative of Asia. As the opening performance, Ahn hung in the air in Art Center, having a matrimonial ceremony with the suspended pianos that symbolize Nam June Paik. Born in Pakistan and living in Berlin, Ceal Floyer reinterprets everyday objects in to artistic objets. Such mundane objects are revived into a diversity of different forms, and this process is usually projected as a video. Having worked on installation, music, radio projects and public art since 1957, Robert Adrian X became a pioneer in the domain of communications in 1979. His early installation works that used surveillance camera proclaimed the global electrical network even before the internet had emerged.
