Upon majoring in Sculpture in college, Lee Nam Lee changed his field of interest to moving image when he started working on animation projects. He is now one of the newly rising directors acclaimed for his unique ideas. Encouraged by the recent ups in the art market, with his international recognition through the international art fairs, his prominence became more pronounced in Korea. Despite his prolific period of which he remained mostly unknown to the public, he recently stepped into the spotlight. He turns classical paintings such as the Korean traditional ink literati paintings and folding screens portraying still scenes into animation through digital reconstruction. His works are often referred as the moving painting. Monets Sunrise, Ryun Huhs landscape works, Sun Jungs Inwangchaesekdo, Leonardo Da Vincis Mona Lisa all started moving. His reinterpretation of Western and Oriental classical masterpieces could not have been possible without the digital technology.

For most contemporary artist, classic paintings such as literati ink paintings and folding screens often fails to draw their attention. However, Lees digital work draws many attentions from the western collectors who are not very familiar with the subject through international art fairs. The lively animation of the oriental ink landscape painting brings sense of novelty to them. Lees unique feature is his idea which is well-reflected in his decision to use subject mostly ignored by other traditional painting, and fusing it with contemporary technology. It can be said that his interest in animation and subsequent artistic activities spanning over 10 years, forms the integral part of his work. Samsung will sponsor his artistic activities for the coming five years with their LED screen. Lee takes tradition as the foundation of his work and builds upon it. I hope his work will further develop into something that will shine brighter.
