Pusan International Film Festival introduced 355 works from 70 countries, including 144 works from World Premier, between 8th of August, 2009 to 16th. What was notable in Korean film section was the commemorative screening of works by director Kiljong Ha , who had been deceased for now three decades, and director Hyunmok Yu, who has recently passed away. Director Ha, who was the icon of the young generation's culture of the 70's, was at the time rare director who was active abroad, featuring total of 7 full-length films, <Hwabun(Flowerpot)>, <March for the Idiots>. To commemorate Ha, who passed away relatively young, the festival screened <Soldier's Celebration>, a piece Ha had made as a final piece for his degree at UCLA, which at the time drew many people's attention. The piece was first converted from a 16 mm film into 35 mm, and a seminar on him was also held. In addition, commemorative screening of works by director Yu, who represents realism of the 60's, to honor his recent decease.

The festival began with the screening of an opening piece - Jin Jang's <Good Morning, President> and was closed with the final piece, <The Message> of China. The only competitive part of the international festival, <New Currents> featured Iranian director Shawkat Amin Korki's <Kick Off> and director Sangmin So's <I'm in Trouble!>.
